A Favor Please

Many of you know my second little niece was born just two weeks ago. I'm an auntie again. Yay!

I spoke to my brother last night and poor little Katherine has been in Children's Mercy Hospital since last Thursday. Apparently she had been having seizures when she slept. They had called their pediatrician who told them to try several things and if that didn't work to call them back. That didn't help so they called back and took her down to the ER. They got her checked out and everything seemed normal including the CT scan which is great news as it means the brain is not affected. As they were getting ready to send them home, Kate started again as she was laying in my brother's arms. Luckily the doctor was right there this time when it happened. They ended up admitting her. Their first concern is meningitis. Apparently the butchers in the ER tried 4 times to get a spinal fluid sample and failed. Poor little Kate was hysterical. They finally stopped. The next day a different doctor came in (not surprising since she was now admitted) and did it flawlessly. I guess she didn't even wimper which is great. They send those results off to the Mayo Clinic so they don't have any answers yet. They also sent tests to the Mayo Clinic for Encephalitis. Until they have the results they are keeping her at the hospital and pumping her full of antiobiotics until a negative test result comes back.

The good news is they met with the neurologist who doesn't think it is anything serious. I can't remember the long clinical name for what he thinks it is, but apparently this can occur in babies up until they are 2 months old. He's seen it go as long as 6 months. It only happens in deep sleep (not REM) and they essentially just twitch. It's not the typical violent seizure we all think of. It can be upper extremities, lower or both. For Kate it's both. When she starts it's like every 2 seconds and her whole body will twitch. The doctor was able to wake her up out of it by stimulating her feet, which he said wouldn't happen if it were actually a seizure. So we are hopefully and keeping positive thoughts that indeed, it is nothing serious. Poor Lisa has been staying at the hospital with her so she can continue to nurse her and be with her. Lisa's parents have been wonderful watching Isabella so my brother can also be at the hospital.

Please keep Kate in your prayers if you are the praying type. If not, please send positive thoughts her way that this is nothing serious and she can go home soon! I really appreciate it!

That's Just Not Right

Ok, this story is just wrong. So wrong I really shouldn't post it, but I'm going to anyway because I'm still a bit flabbergasted.

This morning I'm at my client site and run into one of my clients while getting some water in the break room. He and I have been friends for a couple years now. Not close, but occasionally go grab a beer together. We're sitting there chatting about this, that and the other. All of a sudden he stops and looks at me strangely. When I ask what is wrong he pauses and says, "Wow, you really need to get laid don't you?" Completely startled I said, "Excuse me?" He replied with, "You're about to jump out of your skin aren't you? Damn girl, just go get some would you?"

I'm pretty sure my face is still red. It's just wrong on so many levels! The worst part - he's totally right. How wrong is it when someone else notices though? VERY!

Holy Cold Weather and Snow Batman!

As you know, I spent the weekend in Truckee for the Truckee Renaissance Faire. I was invited by the lovely Moxie to join Les Femmes D'Affaire (aka the O'Hotties) in playing for the weekend. Managed to escape work just after noon on Friday and hit the road.

The drive was uneventful - just the way I like them. Uneventful, that is, until Donner Pass. Wow, it's raining. Wait, that's not rain. That's SNOW! Holy crap. Drove through the snow storm and finally made Truckee. As we were setting up, the snow storm hit. Not sure how long it lasted, but we had fun. Nate, Mara, Moxie and I went out for some of the worst Mexican food I have ever had, but the margaritas had tequila so it was all good. That night was BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR cold. Lucy was kind enough to let me sleep in the pill. I was really glad to have that double-high air mattress. When I finally turned in, it was about 19 degrees (great for the cold eh?). So there I was with flannel sheets, two sleeping bags, comforter, two blankets and my playa coat...freezing my arse off.

Finally put one sleeping bag below me, zipped myself into the second one, stuck my sleeping bag covered feet into the bottom sleeping bag and piled all the other blankets on top of me. The playa fur coat was thrown on top with the hood over my face. Actually ended up toasty warm. The next morning I certainly didn't want to come out from my warm hiding place. I asked anyone who walked in if they wanted to go to the bathroom for me, but somehow was unable to find a taker. *sigh*

Saturday was gorgeous! Bright blue sky, lots of sunshine, tons of rum and single malt, men in kilts....what more does one need? Oh right, some nice kisses. Had some of those too. Hehehehhe. The funniest part was reading good poetry badly. Everyone took a turn reading Shakespeare in some horrible voice impression - Sean O'Connery, William Shatner, Cartman, etc. Too funny!

That night a whole crew of us went out to dinner. Due to slow service we missed Paige's initiation into the O'Hotties which was disappointing. Still had a nice time chatting with folks around the fire. Got convinced to break out the poi so did a little fire dancing. That was really nice as it's been a really long time since I've touched my poi regularly. People seemed to enjoy it so that was cool.

Managed to finagle space in a hotel room Saturday night with Shannon, Bill and Greg. So nice of them to take me in! I was toasty warm all night. Sunday was another gorgeous day. Got to see some old friends which is always a good thing. The day was completed by yet more good poetry read badly. Good stuff. We managed to tear down in an hour and a half which was awesome!

Made it home in a little over 3 hours. That includes a quick gas and food stop. Yes, I was flying. Just wanted to be home. Slept like a log in my own bed which was wonderful.

All in all, a fabulous weekend! I didn't take any photos, but others did. As soon as I get some they'll be posted. If anyone is interested in heading to Casa, I'll be working there this weekend.

Oh, and for those keeping track...No, I did not call Tahoe Boy back.

Yeah, Not So Much

Some of you may remember the Tahoe Boy saga. We haven't really communicated since my last trip up there at the end of July for the CSNY concert. I decided it was best for me to just drop it.

I'm heading up to Truckee today for the Ren Faire. Was invited to join the O'Hotties for the weekend, so how could I say no? Well, in a moment of weakness I called TB and left him a voicemail saying I was going to be there, he was probably working, but if not I was just throwing it out there. Why did I call him you ask? Well, because I'm a girl. Girls, you see, have this silly habit of thinking we can help "fix" people when they are broken. Sadly, you can't fix anyone unless they are willing to fix themselves. Knowing that doesn't always stop us from trying though.

Last night I was driving home and my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and surprise surprise, it was TB. How did I handle it? Like a scared little rabbit jumping back down the rabbit hole. Didn't answer the phone. He left a message saying he was working on Sat, had Sun off but had other plans. However, apparently he may go down to Casa the following weekend. What weekend am I working Casa? Yeah, that one. Ugh. I'm such a retard. Still don't know if I should even bother calling him back. What was I thinking in the first place?

So to those of you who have told me that I really seem to have my shit together, I say, yet again, - Yeah, not so much.

THIS is why I live here!

This morning was a bit tough to make it out of bed. Heck, every morning since BM has been tough to make it out of bed. I'm still really short of sleep and don't seem to be able to catch up. Perhaps if I stopped burning the candle at both ends?

Finally got myself ready and stepped out the door to a beautiful morning. The sky was a bit gray, the marine layer was just starting to burn off, birds were singing and a brisk breeze was blowing off the ocean. It carried the the scent of the water, a taste of salt and a promise of a gorgeous day.

I was instantly struck with the thought - This, this right here, is why I moved here. To be able to wake to the scent and taste of mother ocean, to be able to walk/drive/see her every day, to watch or play in the waves that caress the shore, to feel the wind coming off the water and drifting over the City - yep, life is good. I am a lucky girl!

Yes, I'm Alive

For those of you who have been asking - yes, I am still alive. Yes, this blog does still exist. Life has been crazy getting ready for and attending Burning Man. I'm now home, but exhausted so updates will have to wait. Just wanted to give you a little fodder so you keep coming back!

*hugs*
