It Begins

I'm finally feeling better. Now only hacking up half a lung during the day instead of a full one. Terribly exciting.

Time to get back in the gym and get my sorry ass in shape. Had my last little splurge last night of burger and frieds at a dinner gathering with some Burning Man folks.

I've decided to get back on the Body-For-Life track. I did this a couple years ago. Basically, it's 12 weeks, 6 days a week. You eat 6 small meals a day. Serving size is the size of your fist. You eat 1 serving of carbs and 1 of protein at each meal, plus any vegetables you throw in. You alternate weight and cardio days. Then you get one free day a week where you can eat what you want and not workout. When I did it last time I made it through about 6 weeks and then got sick as a dog ( couldn't move off the couch for a week ) and never went back to it. In that time though I could definitely tell a difference.

Got up early this morning and hit the gym. Today was a leg weights day. Tried to keep it light since it's been a while since I've lifted. Still think I'm going to hurt though. Felt good to get back on the wagon. Keep your fingers crossed. It's a long road ahead!

This was brought to you by the letter F and the number 75.

MB - I will now think of you every time I have a protein shake. I haven't decided if your offer or the fact that my protein shake is chocolate and I now think of you is more disturbing!

Fish - Thanks mate.

Spotty - are you on crack? What fat do you think you have?

Glib - absolutely will be at Betty Ford! It is the 20th anniversary after all.

Trojan - Thanks darlin! I'll probably take you up on that. No dairy? Not sure if my cheese tooth could survive.

Snicklefritz,

The reason you got sick as a dog last time is because you freaking starved yourself for six weeks and your immune system was severely compromised. It is imperative, that if you choose to do this BFL gig and work out as ambitiously as you say, that you take a multi-vitamin as well as flax-seed and fish oil pills for the Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Nearly double whatever amount of food you ate last time and sleep a full 8 hours and then some. And you need to hydrate, all day long, keeping your urine clear.

You just got over being sick, and you're going to compromise your immune system all over again by initiating the BFL program.

Either:

1. Wait a couple of weeks to let your immune system fully recover,

or

2. Start this hairbrained program again, even though it made you sicker than shit last time you did it, along with the extra things I noted above and see where it ends up.

Why aren't you recognizing the things that this program did to you the last time you tried it?

It's up to you, but I don't want to read another blog from you in six weeks discussing how sick you've become, again.

Why are you all encouraging BH to starve herself and get sick as fuck again? Am I taking crazy pills?

Don't tell me to relax on this one or that I've got my tail feathers ruffled for no reason because I'm right. I might not be right about much, but I'm right about this.

Calm down Bevis?

You're right, I need to calm down.

Your three days-ago trip to Whole Foods and free session with a trainer definitely trumps the 12+ years experience I have as both a health care professional and a guy who has needed to make actual changes to stay healthy.

Consider me calm,

Good grief man...I was never trying to trump anything, just offered her some free advice that said nothing about starvation..

You have 12+ years of experience...Conrats to you!

I was 210 lbs is high school and lost most of it from healthy eating and exercise....I promise you, I'm more than just some fluffy chick who buys organic crap at Whole foods.
Cheers!
